Step by step installation of BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express
In the next article we will explain step by step how to install the Blackberry Enterprise Server Express, Blackberry BES free server in an organization in order to have the main features of a Blackberry BES server.
Steps to install BESExpress
Download the product by registering on the web:
http://es.blackberry.com/services/business/server/express/
1) Check if KISS can be installed in your organization:
KISS To see if you can install in your organization must first of all check that:
- Server messaging: we have installed a messaging server such as:
- MS Exchange 2010 SP1
- MS Exchange 2007 SP2
- MS Exchange 2003 SP2
- Mixed environment MS Exchange 2003 and 2007
- Firewall: we must allow access TCP / IP port 3101 in both directions
- Proxy: If your company has a firewall proxy, the proxy must be transparent to KISS
- DNS: the company must have a DNS
- KISS can be installed on the same server as Exchange Server or Windows Small Business Server for up to 75 users
- KISS can be installed in virtual environment (HyperV and VMware)
- KISS is not supported if the server that has MS Outlook installed
- KISS can not be installed on a server in a DMZ
- KISS is incompatible with BES
2) Hardware Requirements

3) Software Requirements

4) Creating an account and mailbox for KISS
In this step we must create an account in Active Directory to allow access of KISS and a mailbox to store all the information. To do this we will take the following steps:
- Entered the Exchange Administrative Console
- Create a new user mailbox
- We give the name for example: besadmin
- We put the same name "besadmin" to the Windows
- Select the mailbox database "Mailbox Database" giving the "Browse" button.
- At the end we will have the mailbox and the account created
5) Configure the messaging server
In this step we will configure the messaging server to allow KISS to redirect data between user mailboxes and their Blackberry. This step must be done in different ways depending on the version of MS Exchange to have. Let's focus on MS Exchange 2007.
- Open the Exchange Shell
- Execute the following statement: add-exchangeadministrator "besadmin"-role ViewOnlyAdmin
- Then execute the following statement: get-mailboxserver "ServidorExchange" | add-adpermission-user "besadmin"-AccessRights ExtendedRights ExtendedRight-Receiver-as, ms-exch-store-admin, send-as
- What we have done is to provide a set of permissions to user "BESAdmin" for the proper functioning of KISS
6) Set KISS server hosting
In this step we have two options:
- Install the server on a dedicated server KISS
- Install the server kiss on the same server as Windows SBS
We will explain the first option, on a dedicated server.
- The dedicated server went into "Administrative Tools> Computer Management"
- Select "Local Users and Groups"
- Select "Groups" and enter "Administrators" to add the user "besadmin"
- We now enter "Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy"
- Expand "Local Policies" and "User Rights Assignment"
- We went into the "Allow log on locally" and add "besadmin"
- We enter into "Log on as service" and add "besadmin"
These steps give access permissions and the user sufficient privileges "besadmin" to access the dedicated server.
7) Configure Server databases
In this step we also have two options:
- Use a manager of SQL Server databases on the server
- KISS automatically installed MS SQL Server 2005
We will use the second option, which automatically installs install KISS manager databases.
8) Run the setup application
It's time to install the application, we first have to download the web, we will receive several e-mail. In the process of downloading the application (it takes about 530MB), we get a window where we show a series of data such as:
BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express 5.0 for Microsoft Exchange
Quantity: 1
Number 1 of 1
SRP ID: X
SRP Authentication Key: cjsk-xxxx-xxxx-ntgd-binq-v6ic-xxxx-xxxx-ts7n gphn-
CAL ID: x
CAL Authentication Key: besexp-xxxxxx-xxxxxx-sw8nc9 5mvp8j-
The data we store them in a file. Txt as during the installation procedure requested.
Once downloaded the application must enter the server where users are going to install it as "besadmin" and we put constraseña and follow these steps:
- Run "setup.exe"
- We get a window confirming that you run as user "besadmin" give to "Continue Installation"
- It comes another window with the license agreement, select and move our country
- We are out the window "Setup Type". Here you select the first option "Create a BlackBerry Configuration Database" and we
- It comes out the other window "Setup Options". Here you select the first option "BlackBerry Enterprise Server" and we
- The next window is very important, we get a list of checks "Preinstallation checklist". We validate that everything is OK. The most common is missing on the server to install MAPI and CDO. I podeís it off the next
If it fails in MAPI or CDO, get out of the installation process and install the package KISS this, restart the machine and go back to the installation of KISS
- In the "Preinstallation checklist" if everything is OK we move
- We get a window "Database options". Here you select the first option "Install MS SQL Server 2005 ..." and move
- We get a window of "Accounts and folder". Here we put the password of the account "besadmin" and then all the way down to a name for the kiss, for example "BESePrueba"
- We leave another sale is the "Summary", the summary of all that we have defined we give "Install" and the installation process begins
- It forces us to restart the machine once finished, we do it and we go back to Logar as "besadmin"
- Open new installation process KISS
- We get a window "Database Information". Here we will leave everything as it comes by default (as we go forward we are asked to create the database)
- We get a window of "Blackberry CAL and SRP Information". Here we need to put: in CAL Key and SRP authentication data we have saved by downloading the software from the web in a file. Txt. To validate that everything is OK you can click on the respective buttons "Verify" and move
- It comes out the other window to put the Exchange server name we have in our organization and the name of the mailbox ("besadmin"), we proceeded
- We leave another window where port and SSL settings. In this window you can validate that the default ports are correct. Then put a password under SSL communication and we
- Sale another window "MS Active Directory settings". Here we must enter a valid username and password with administrator rights we have, we go ahead
- It comes out the other window "Authentication". Here you select the second option "BlackBerry Administration Service Use authentication". Create an account manager for this service. The default username is "admin" and password, and we put forward
- We out another window, here are the button "Start services" and wait for it to initialize all services, can last a while. We Open up completion and finishing with the installation of the dedicated server kissed
9) Installation Testing
To validate that the installation was done properly, we will validate that the services are running: "Administrative Tools> Services" and check that Blackberry services are running. We can also enter Blackberry Administration Service and add a test user account.
10) Concluding Remarks
We have successfully managed to install KISS server. Now begins a new stage, activation and management of KISS KISS. In future articles we will explain these two points.
Blackberry Enterprise Server Express free solution for SMEs
In this article we will explain a new solution, launched by the company in February 2010 RIM and Blackberry Enterprise Server Express called to meet the needs of businesses when it comes to remotely synchronize data from Blackberry devices.

In a previous article we explained how to set up a corporate email account to a Blackberry, in particular with the BIS (Blackberry Internet Services), you can review the article: http://tuquiosco.es/general/configurar-e-mail -on-blackberry /
Now let us even deeper into the world of business RIM Blackberry in the world. One of the main problems of most companies, which have remote workers Blackberry devices for day to day, is the synchronization of the data. As we explained in the article ( http://tuquiosco.es/general/configurar-e-mail-en-blackberry/ ) there are two systems: BIS and BES. As we recall in BIS have many limitations, we mainly just sync mail for more information as synchronized address book, calendar, tasks, ... BES is required. Remember that a BES server has a significant cost in licensing, but allows us to endless efforts.
The company RIM, he realized that a large majority of companies and users of Blackberry, Iphone migrated to smatphones as with other Windows Phone, simply for ease of synchronization with Exchange Server, for example. Fortunately RIM has reacted in time, launching in early 2010 a new product completely free: Blackberry Enterprise Server Express. This product aims to provide businesses with a Blackberry Enterprise Server with almost all its main features, but with limitations, many of them unnecessary for the vast majority of companies. We must bear in mind that the vast majority of BlackBerry users are SMEs, and many of them do not have large IT infrastructures, with severe budgetary constraints to invest in BES.
Blackberry Enterprise Server Express (hereinafter BESx) covers two major business opportunities in the market:
1) The software provides economic benefits to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that want the degree of segridad and manageability offered by BlackBerry ® Enterprise Server, but do not require all of its advanced features.
2) Provide a cost effective solution that enables IT departments to meet the growing demand for employees to access their personal mail and their work.
BESx works with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007 and 2010, and also with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Small 2008, providing users a secure because it uses the same security architecture of BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
If we connect to MS Exchange Server BESx or MS Small Business Server, users can:
- Synchronize your email, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks
- Manage email folders remotely
- Manage meetings and appointments, check availability and forward attachments.
- Set out of office reply
- Edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using Documents To Go ®
- Access to files stored on the corporate network
- Use mobile applications to access enterprise systems behind that firewall
Importantly, using BESx not have to pay additional fees per user or software download.
BESx works with any Blackberry data plan enabled our Internet service provider or a corporate Blackberry data plan.
The main requirements to implement and use Blackberry Enterprise Server Express are:
Hardware Requirements

System Requirements

Other requirements

Next, to better understand the structure of an installation we will show you BESx a scheme very enlightening:

In future articles we will explain, step by step, how to install BESx is a server with Windows Small Business Server and how to configure it.
VMware vSphere 4.1: the new virtualisation tool
The following opinion article we will explain the new tool Vmware virtualization company, known as vSphere 4.1.

In previous articles of this blog have talked about virtualization, operation, and we also talked about a particular product VMware. You can refresh memory in the following items:
Clear concepts: Virtualization of servers and / or services
Virtualization products: VMware
A practical example of Virtualization with VMWare
The company VMware has announced that for the month of August will release the new version of the well known vSphere, version 4.1. This new version has some significant improvements, mainly in the following diagram we can see how it distributed the following versions:

If we analyze this new scheme we noted that the services of High Availibility (HA) and VMotion are located now in the standard version, while Tolerence Fault (FT) is now part of the Advanced version. Without any doubt this change in versions of great benefit to users with a license can take advantage of lower cost two services very good. We recall that serves vMotion for moving virtual machines between different physical nodes hot and HA is a feature that continuously monitors all physical servers and in case of failure, affected virtual machines restarted on another physical server.
According to the company VMware, vSphere 4.1 features improvements in the management of virtual machine resources and performance of the network also announced the entry into force of a new licensing system virtual machine, so far was for hardware.
vSphere 4.1 includes several significant changes to come closer to SMEs. It incorporates a new memory compression technology that enables a throughput of up to 25% higher than the previous version (data demonstrate outstanding). It also incorporates an improved management of resources, this version allows over the previous, double computing resources in each network. We also noticed that it has substantially improved the speed of migration of virtual machines from one physical node to another, up to 5 times faster than the previous version. Now each physical server can be able to manage up to 10,000 virtual machines, three times more than in the previous version. For SMEs VMware released a product called VmwareGo that facilitates the introduction to the world of virtualization, to make it easier to adapt to this new technology.
VMware is also introducing two new products:
• VMware vCenter Configuration Manager, which allows operating enforce policies and prevent configuration errors by automating manual processes on all servers and workstations, both virtual and physical.
• VMware vCenter Application Discovery Manager, which maps accurate and fast way dependencies between applications to speed up movement within the data center, also plans to consolidate infrastructure and virtualize business-critical applications.
Prices vary according to the needs of customers and hardware versions. Prices range from 65 € to more than 3,000 € of some licenses, but the two previous products is priced at $ 50,000 per virtual machine.

A practical example of Virtualization with VMWare
In previous articles we explained the core concepts of virtualization for readers to understand. We also explain a particular product virtualization: VMWare , versions, licensing and features. In this article we explain a practical example of using virtualization, hopefully that is clear and concise. If you have questions write to me, I will answer gladly.
Suppose the company Bibirras SL, which is dedicated to the retailing of beer in Spain, has an area of systems with the following scheme:
The company has 4 servers:
- 1 server for managing MS Dynamics Navision ERP version 5.0, where users manage information
- 1 server to domain controller and file server
- A mail server with MS Exchange
- 1 server to do backups
Bibirras SL The company realizes that this structure is becoming obsolete and decided to propose a new technological scenario. Area is required to support a systems company growth over the next 3 years is gathering delegations throughout Spain, to support improved information management, to improve the performance of user access, access accept and remote data management, ...
The company Bibirras SL TUQUIOSCO contacts and this offers a solution: virtualization with consolidation and availability with VMWare.
Why Virtualization?
As explained in other articles virtualization technology is booming, with great potential, yet well established products in the market as VMWare. Virtualization allows us to obtain a number of important advantages:
- Optimization of servers and
- Reduced costs of physical infrastructure (space, power, ...)
- Operational Flexibility
- Ability to respond before problems
- Improved security processes and backups
- Improved TCO and ROI
- Drastic reduction in downtime (migrations, upgrades, testing, ...)
- Dynamic balancing of resources (virtual machines)
- Agility growth
Why consolidation?

By consolidating intend to purchase 2 new physical servers to accommodate the 4 earlier servers using VMWare virtual form as a result of virtualization. With this solution we get:
- Improving disaster response before: through the VMWware snapshots can restore virtual machines quickly and safely.
- Reduced infrastructure costs: space and power.
- Agility of growth: the only limitation we have is physical server hardware and VMware licensing. If we want more virtual servers to expand the physical server hardware, or purchase a third server and VMWware licenses. This would be the most adequate to support a new virtual server with Terminal Server to access and manage data remotely.
Availability Why?

Availability is an important concept in the whole area of systems infrastructure. We must limit the availability to the maximum possible errors in the systems area, to enable business continuity in the company. In any infrastructure project must meet the following equation:
SECURITY = Identity + Integrity + AVAILABILITY
In this solution only attacks the AVAILABILITY leaving aside all the concepts involved in data integrity and identity of people accessing this data. To solve this equation would have to propose for remote access secure, for example, a VPN for each delegation or client with SSL security. In another article will explain two important concepts of identity and security as S2S (Site to Site) and C2S (Client to Site).
Why the company decided to go Bibirras SL has a good availability through redundant physical devices. 2 physical servers are chosen in case one of them falls the other can work perfectly (it is recommended that each physical server does not work over 50% of its capacity to support availability), VMware can manage balancing work automatically . Are chosen to double the number of connecting elements (routers and switches) in case one fails not to leave the area of systems with no connection to the users. Even should double the access to the Internet to ensure continuous service, by for example two ADSL lines with several different companies.
Consolidation and availability solution
We added to the solution a storage bin where it will manage centrally all the information. In this way virtual machines do not contain data, they have access to the cabin to get the information. This solution ensures data availability and greater protection policies backups.
The final scheme has TUQUIOSCO (without showing the connection elements to meet the availability duplicate) to the company Bibirras SL is as follows:

What can this solution cost?
The solution proposed by TUQUIOSCO consolidation and availability in the area of systems can cost approximately:
- Hardware: Servers + car = € 11,000 approximately
- Software: Licensing Vmware = 3,500 € approximately
- Services: configuration costs approximately € 4,000 =
- Approximate Total = € 17,500
** Note: This solution includes HP servers with 4GB 150GB SAS disks, 3-year warranty service response to 4 hours, iSCSI storage array with 2 500GB SATA hard disks and a 3 year warranty with 4 response hours, a connecting element (48-port Ethernet Switch 10/100/1000), 1 license of VMware vSphere 4.0 Essen Plus Support 3 years 9 × 5.
Clear concepts: Virtualization of servers and / or services
What is virtualization?
Virtualization is a software technology that is rapidly changing environment of information technologies and radically transforming the way people use information systems.
The powerful current x86 hardware was originally designed to run a single operating system and a single application, but virtualization has done away with these limitations by enabling simultaneous execution of multiple operating systems and multiple applications on the same computer, thus increasing the use and flexibility of hardware.
You can see a more specific definition but more difficult to understand in wikipedia, click here .
How does virtualization?
Basically, virtualization lets you transform hardware into software. Use software to transform or "virtualize" the hardware resources of an x86 computer, including CPU, RAM, hard disk and network controller, to create a fully functional virtual machine that can run its own operating system and applications just as a computer does "real".
Several virtual machines share hardware resources without interfering with each other so that you can run simultaneously on multiple operating systems safely and applications on a single computer.
What can be virtualized?
In the next picture we see what we can virtualize red, and black, are the necessary software to virtualize.

What are the advantages we get with virtualization?
- Rapid incorporation of new resources for virtualized servers.
- Reduced space and power costs in proportion to necessary consolidation ratio achieved (mean estimate 10:1).
- Global centralized and simplified management.
- It allows us to manage our CPD (data processing center) as a resource pool or group of all the processing power, memory, network and storage available on our infrastructure
- Improved cloning processes and systems backup: Easier to create test environments that allow implementing new applications without impacting production, speeding up the testing process.
- Insulation system to crash a virtual machine does not affect other virtual machines.
- Improving TCO and ROI
- Not only brings direct benefit in reducing the required hardware and their associated costs
- Reduce downtime.
- Live migration of virtual machines (without loss of service) from one physical server to another, eliminating the need for planned outages for maintenance of the physical servers.
- Dynamic balancing of virtual machines between physical servers that make up the pool of resources, ensuring that each virtual machine running on the most appropriate physical server and providing a uniform resource consumption and optimal in the entire infrastructure.
- High overall satisfaction
Types of virtualization software
- VMWare
- Microsoft HyperV
- Xen (Citrix)
- Virtual Box (Sun)
- OpenVZ
The software on the market is consolidated at the same time VMWare is offering the best guarantees of success of a project, while providing for the future evolution and growth.
